An interesting article in the local newspaper points out that the City of Victoria is proposing bylaw changes which would affect boat moorage on the Gorge. While the intent is to regulate live-aboards and derelict boats -- particularly those which are releasing sewage, garbage, and oil slicks into the water -- the effect could extend to recreational boats and overnight anchorage.
There will be a public hearing announced soon, and apparently both the Burnside Gorge neighbourhood association and the Vic West neighbourhood association will be involved. So if you go boating in Victoria Harbour and the Gorge Waterway, keep informed and participate in the hearing!
