Last Saturday, a U.S. Coast Guard boat crew from Bellingham, Washington saved a pair of canoeists who flipped over in Portage Channel near Lummi Island in Puget Sound. The rescue was video taped; it's embedded below.
Neither canoeist was wearing a PFD, and both were treated for mild hypothermia. The lessons here are: wear your PFD, dress for the water temperature, and tell Prime Minister Harper to stop closing Coast Guard stations. They do come in handy every now and then.
